The University of Padua (UNIPD) is one of Europe’s oldest and most prestigious institutions. As a multi-disciplinary area of higher education, the University aims to provide its students with professional training and a solid cultural background. Founded in 1222, it is ranked as the first large Italian University for the quality of its research results according to the first ever two reports issued by the National Research Assessment Committee (ANVUR). Based on the number of citations of articles and publications by its researchers (source: ISI), the University of Padua ranks among the top three Italian universities for total impact index, productivity index, and presence index.
The Precision Manufacturing research group (research.dii.unipd.it/tecno) at the Faculty of Engineering is renowned for its work in Manufacturing and Geometrical Metrology, focusing on areas like Additive and Digital Manufacturing. Key research areas include on-machine and in-process metrology, advanced surface finishing and characterization, freeform surface metrology, measurement processing and analysis and the economic aspects of industrial measurements. UNIPD’s metrology laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, including contact and multi-sensor coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), 3D profilers using white light interferometry, confocal and focus variation techniques, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with EBSD and EDX detectors, and portable laser scanners and in-line optical measuring systems as support to diverse manufacturing applications.
With around thirty researchers, including professors, assistant professors, research assistants, and Ph.D. students, the group collaborates closely with industry, particularly in automotive and manufacturing sectors. It offers a range of engineering courses, from undergraduate to doctoral levels

CATIM – Technological Centre for the Metal Working Industry is a non-profit private institution that resulted from the association of interests of industrial and respective associated companies, as well as public bodies. The founding partners of CATIM are AIMMAP – Association of Portuguese Metallurgical, Mechanical Engineering and Similar Industrial Companies, INETI – National Institute of Industrial Engineering and Technology, IAPMEI – Institute for Support to Small and Medium Enterprises. CATIM’s mission is to contribute to the innovation and competitiveness of metalworking industries and related sectors.Due to its specificity (Technology Center) and its sectoral vocation, CATIM has always been an essential element in the business modernisation on metalworking industries and related sectors, providing directly services to companies and collaborating with the State and its various departments to the implementation of relevant functions (such as the recognition as Notified Body or Sectoral Standardization Body in several fields) and in many industrially oriented programs or in partnership with several national and foreign entities, for example technological infrastructures, to improve quality, safety, innovation, competitiveness, technological upgrade and the sustainability of the national industry. Knowing well the target sectors has been a constant concern, either through a close with the industrial and sectoral associations, either the participation in sectoral studies programs, diagnosis and strategic planning individualized for SMEs (e.g. Benchmarking studies, training-action programs), study and implementation of good manufacturing practices, either through the participation in various national and European forums of technological surveillance. CATIM is member of: CIRP (The International Academy for Production Engineering), CmTrain (Training for Coordinate Metrology), EUSPEN (European Society for Precision Engineering & Nanotechnology), Lab TQ (European Association of Independent Test laboratories), PRODUTECH (Production Technologies Cluster). CATIM provides: interactions with industry (SMEs), research and development, establishment and access to research infrastructures, networking and international collaborations, bridges between academia and industry, training programs in own expertise areas and promotion of industry and technology among young students. CATIM has based its actions for coordination of services also with strategic collective nature aiming at efficiency gains and increase the competitiveness and internationalisation levels for all those who use this Technology Center.

Cracow University of Technology comprises 8 faculties with 30 majors of study accredited by the Polish Accreditation Committee. Also the majors taught by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture are accredited by the European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education. Moreover the major in Architecture is accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the major in Landscape Architecture earned the accreditation of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) Europe. Cracow University of Technology was awarded the Logo Human Resources Excellence in Research by the European Commission. Currently nearly 14,000 students taking full-time, part-time and Ph.D. studies as well as post-graduate studies with nearly 1,100 academic teachers overseeing their education. Total number of alumni that graduated from PK exceed 80 000. Our alumni find jobs at public and private companies, national and international enterprises, government administration, and also at universities and research institutes. We are committed to ensure that all the PK graduates represent a high level of expertise as well as the highest ethical standards so that they can choose from many interesting job offers. Cooperation with many universities and scientific centres all over the world enables joint publications and research, exchange of students and academic teachers, as well as the possibility of obtaining additional certificates and double diplomas. Cooperation with industry is also well-developed, and a Technology Transfer Centre is active in the university. A Special Economic Zone – the Cracow Technological Park – was created in 1997 as a reply for a call from the university. It has since become a platform linking the Cracovian scientific world with modern technologies.
